Social Skills

Children learn social skills best in a non-contrived social, structured and facilitated environment.  Authentic learning situations increase the brain's ability to make connections and retain new information particularly in the area of social skills.

Harbor Haven provides embedded social learning every period of every day with a built-in age and ability appropriate peer group, trained and motivated staff, and countless opportunities to “practice” socialization. Counselor modeling and feedback “in the moment” greatly reinforces and improves peer interactions.

Children attend a more formalized social skills group four times a week with a social worker, psychologist or other appropriately degreed and experienced professional.

Academic, therapeutic, and social programming aligns with each student's IEP.
