Bright Beginnings

(Ages 3-5)

The proof is in the progress. Experience the difference.

Harbor Haven is especially known for our ages 3-5 programming.  "Bright Beginnings" is uniquely constructed to provide younger special needs children, with a comprehensive approach that supports them in all areas. This includes our learning center, social skills, speech, and occupational therapies.

Camp Activities

Bright Beginnings campers can attend a full day from 9 am-3:30 pm or a mini-day from 9 am-12 pm. Mini-day campers have the option to extend up to 2 afternoons. Special components will take place prior to 12 pm mini-day dismissal.

MAIN CAMP

(Ages 6-15)

Lower Camp

(Ages 6-8)

Lower Campers get to experience everything Harbor Haven has to offer including swim time, creative arts, sports of all sorts, karate, gymnastics, music, drama, bicycle riding/instruction, food fun, computers, Junior Clubhouse (the most amazing indoor playroom ever!), playground, social skills group and facilitation, learning center, speech & OT groups, and our special events!

Middle Camp

(Ages 9-12)

A special feature of Middle Camp programming is Hobbies. Hobbies feature a round of special fun that reflects appropriate age-trending hobbies and interests.

Middle Campers have swim time, creative arts, athletics, karate, yoga, music, drama, nature, bicycle riding/instruction, food fun, computers, special events, social skills group, Challenge Sector, learning center, speech & OT group, and Fun Zone!

Upper Camp

(Ages 13-15)

The excitement never stops for Upper Campers at Harbor Haven!  There is certainly no shortage of activities for Upper Campers - swim, creative arts, athletics, tennis, Gaga, karate, yoga, performing arts, special events, food fun, nature, bicycle riding, computers/media, social skills groups, Challenge Sector and Fun Zone. 

Upper Campers also go on 4 planned trips! All trip locations are thoroughly vetted by Harbor Haven for health and safety protocols. Trips are planned at outdoor locations. If there is inclement weather on a trip day, alternative exciting activities are planned at camp.

LIFE Program

(Ages 16-18)

The LIFE program at Harbor Haven provides support for meeting transition goals.  It is a balanced combination of structured learning experiences that promote growth in the following areas:

  • Daily/independent living skills; personal care, housekeeping, health and safety

  • Development of employment readiness skills

  • Financial literacy

  • Real-world reading and writing

  • Computer and executive functioning skills

  • On-site jobs with coaching; guest speakers for employment opportunities

  • Hobbies and socialization

  • Exposure and access to community resources

  • Exploring post-secondary options 

  • Meal planning/preparation, nutrition

  • Travel training through out-of-camp trips*

  • Yoga, swimming, sports, crafts, music and more!

  • Individual speech and occupational therapy is available at an additional cost

A high staff-to-participant ratio is maintained. An intake is required.

TravelQuest Program - After the conclusion of the 5-week LIFE Program, teens may continue for one or two weeks in our exciting day travel program.

LIFE is a unique full-day summer program created by Harbor Haven's team of professionals for 16-18-year-old teens with mild special needs.

TravelQuest

(Ages 16-18)

TravelQuest is a two-week day travel program for 16-18-year-olds with mild special needs, created and operated by Harbor Haven.  Teens can participate as a natural extension of the acclaimed 5-week LIFE Program at Harbor Haven or as a stand-alone one or two week summer experience. 

TravelQuest is a fun social way for your teen to interact and experience new adventures with compatible young adults.  It is designed for teens with mild special needs.  In the TravelQuest program your teen is supported and supervised by professionals in the field of special education.

More details about this terrific opportunity for your teen:

  • Travel days include a fun trip, snacks, beverages and lunch.

  • All trip/lunch locations will be thoroughly vetted by Harbor Haven for health and safety protocols.

  • Trips are planned at both indoor and outdoor locations. If there is inclement weather on an outdoor trip day, an alternative activity will be planned.

  • All trips leave from and return to Harbor Haven.

  • Participants choose one or two weeks.

  • Centralized location transportation can be provided in most cases (at an additional cost).

  • All trip expenses are included in the tuition.

  • Three TravelQuest shirts and a backpack are included in the cost of the program.

  • Calendar of scheduled trips available in late winter.

  • All scheduled trips are subject to change due to weather conditions or other variables.

  • A virtual interview may be required.
